Verifying insurance is one of the first major steps in medical billing.

 
  • A – Appointment Date and Rendering Doctor
    • please make sure that you have the correct date of service correct
  • B – In-network or Out of Network
    • we are usually in the network of some major insurance but this still has to be verified
    • if you identified that we are out of network, make sure to ask if the patient’s plan have out of network benefits
    • if we are out of network and the patient’s plan had no out-of-network benefits, our claim will be denied, unless the procedure is emergency
  • C – Patient Information
    • you can get this from the patient information form of the dental billing software you use
    • make sure that the information is correct, you may check the ID of the patient
  • D – Insured Information
    • this is the information of the insurance owner
    • there are times when the patient is not the owner of the insurance, please take note of this detail
    • please cross check the insurance information in the insurance ID and patient information form in the dental billing software
  • E – Insurance information
    • having the correct insurance information is vital in processing a successful claim
    • get the correct claim filing deadline – filing the insurance late would result in a denial
    • make sure to also get the details if the patient has a secondary insurance
