Dental crows are toothshaped “cap”s placed over the tooth to restore the shape, size, strength and appearance of damaged tooth
  • Why Is a Dental Crown Needed?
  1. To protect a weak tooth (for instance, from decay) from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth
  2. To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down
  3. To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't a lot of tooth left
  4. To hold a dental bridge in place
  5. To cover misshapened or severely discolored teeth
  6. To cover a dental implant
  7. To make a cosmetic modification

There are different types of crown:
  1. metal - metals that can be used in dental crowns, including gold, palladium, nickel and chromium
  2. porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM)- type of dental crown can be matched to the color of the teeth that’s next to the crown
  3. all-resin - Dental crowns made out of resin are generally less expensive than other crown types; resin are insoluble materials exuded by plants
  4. all-ceramic or all-porcelain - types of dental crowns provide the best natural color match compared to any other crown type; also a good choice if you have metal allergies; ceramics are clay materials exposed to high heat

  • Dental Code: D6058 porcelain/ceramic crown anchored to an implant abutment
  • This code describes an "abutment supported" crown anchored over either a prefabricated (D6056) or custom abutment (D6057). D6058 is not attached directly to the implant body

  • This procedure is done to lengthen a crown
