What's the Situation?
Dental Anatomy is one of the basics that all individuals in the dental department usually encounter. We are expected to know how to count the patient's teeth both in x-rays and images. We also should know the parts of the tooth. We must also recognize dental procedures or if not, what procedures have been done or what are supposed to be done to a certain tooth.

The main objective of this module is to measure the knowledge of the dental staff on dental anatomy, procedures and dental counting.

What's the Situation?

A patient arrives for an appointment looking highly anxious. While completing their paperwork, they quietly disclose that they recently lost their job, no longer have health insurance, and are deeply concerned that they will not be able to afford the medical care they need today.

How do Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) make healthcare accessible for patients in situations like this?

To learn more about Sliding Fee discount, watch the video provided and read through the information below.

Sliding Fee Definition

  • A Sliding Fee (or Sliding Fee Scale) is a structured discount program utilized within healthcare and Revenue Cycle Management (RCM).

  • Purpose: Its primary goal is to make essential medical services significantly more affordable for uninsured or low-income patients.

  • Eligibility Factors: The reduction in the amount a patient pays for healthcare services is determined based on their specific financial situation, primarily evaluating their income, household size, and overall ability to pay.

What's the Situation?

The patient's visit has been completed, and they qualified for the Sliding Fee Discount based on their financial situation. But after the discount is applied, the account still shows an uncollectible balance. The claim remains in the pending errors queue until the account is resolved.

How can you correctly finalize this account so the claim can be processed?

To learn more, watch the video provided and read through the information below.

Sliding Fee Adjustment

  • Pre-Adjustment Verifications: Before posting any financial adjustments, users must verify the patient's information to confirm the validity and specific schedule of the assigned Sliding Fee. Documentation should also be reviewed under the "Billing or Financial" section within the patient docs hub.

  • Process Steps:

    1. Access the claim adjustments area

    2. Select the designated "Sliding Fee Write Off" code (SLIDE)

    3. Enter the adjustment amount

    4. Choose "Post CPT" to correctly distribute the adjustment across the appropriate codes

  • Finalization: Once successfully posted, the system will update the current balance to $0. Users must then update the claim notes and ensure that finalized claims are correctly flagged with a status of "Bill to Patient".

What's the Situation?

After correctly adjusting the patient's remaining balance using the SLIDE transaction code, you move on to your month-end billing review. Your supervisor asks you to verify the financial activity for the facility, including the charges, payments, refunds, and write-offs recorded during the reporting period.

How can you investigate the transactions behind the totals to make sure everything was recorded accurately?

To learn more, watch the video provided and read through the information below.

Payment Reporting

  • Report Access: System users can generate comprehensive financial reports by navigating to either the "Financial Analysis at Claim Level (With Everything)" or "Financial Analysis at CPT Level (With Everything)" options.

  • Filtering and Customization: Reports can be customized by filtering for specific facilities or clients, defining transaction types (such as charges, payments, refunds, and write-offs), and setting custom date ranges.

  • Data Visualization: The reporting system generates a high-level summary view displaying metrics like billed charges, patient counts, and adjustments, while allowing users to click directly on the numbers to drill down into a full, detailed report.
